Host country at the marketplace

Image

Every year a new host country gives the marketplace an unmistakable flair. Flanders will be taking participants on a culinary journey to the north of Belgium at the 29th Symposium on Fine Food + Drink. The Flemish have been regarded as pleasure-seekers for centuries; good food and drink are integral aspects of their regional identity. As the country where French fries originated and with no less than 1,150 types of beer, the northernmost region of the Kingdom of Belgium is well known for its hearty delicacies. The Flemish North Sea coast, on the other hand, provides light indulgence: fish and seafood are a real treat for the palate. With its fine chocolate and delicate melt-in-your-mouth pralines, Flanders is a big hit with anyone with a sweet tooth. The epicurean region also has a dynamic gastronomy scene. From award-winning Michelin-star cuisine to young rebels at the stove who are making a name for themselves with zero-waste concepts, Flanders’ cuisine offers a diverse variety of excellent and extraordinary flavours. The Flemish exhibitors are bringing their local food industry’s riches to Munich for two days.

French fries, beer and chocolate are commonly the three culinary clichés associated with Belgium's Dutch-speaking North. In this sense: Schol! Well get it! The fact that the European gourmet region has much more to offer than three export hits will be demonstrated at the 29th Fine Food + Drink Symposium on 9 and 10 May 2019 in Munich by the exhibitors of the host country 2019.

The Flemish also love the variety, not to mention the contradiction. Street food shops and experimental gastronomy concepts exist in the Flemish cities of Ghent, Bruges or Antwerp with emancipated self-evident alongside Michelin-starred cuisine. As well, the love of tradition does not exclude a penchant for high-tech. This breadth keeps the Flemish food industry simmering and its chefs cooking. Numerous exhibitors will bring this variety to Munich.

Trade conference

Date / time: Friday, 10 May 2019 from 10.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and 2.30 p.m. to 3.45 p.m.

Place: Kesselhaus, Lilienthalallee 29, 80939 Munich

Selected experts will speak passionately and inspiringly about the latest trends and developments in the food industry at the trade conference.
